In 2010, Sunnyside published a 300-page book called Sunnyside: Our History. Our Heritage. Our Home. Most of the book consists of information about families that have lived here over the past century - the first settlers, where they were from, their children and grandchildren. The names were compiled by Judy Hillier Snook and, as she would say, it was truly a labour of love.
Most early settlers came from nearby - Trinity Bay, Conception Bay, Placentia Bay and the St. John's area. A few came from farther away, particularly Labrador as men who went there to fish sometimes came home with wives.
Later Settlers Map
This map shows a broader and later settlement pattern. Most early settlers came from nearby but later settlers came from many different areas of the province and also outside Newfoundland.
